What is a Nano SIM card?

The nano-SIM card is smaller than the currently used micro-SIM card, freeing up more space for accessories such as batteries, and providing additional storage functions such as user phone information and cellular identity information.

According to US media reports, despite opposition and criticism regarding different proposals for the 4FF (Nano-SIM) standard, Apple’s Nano-SIM card design proposal was adopted by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI), while the proposal jointly submitted by Nokia, RIM, and Motorola was rejected.

ETSI announced this news on its official website, stating that an agreement on 4FF (Nano-SIM) was reached at the Smart Card Platform Technical Committee meeting held in Osaka, Japan. The association stated that the fourth specification (4FF) card is 12.3 mm wide, 8.8 mm high, and 0.67 mm thick, 40% smaller than the currently used SIM card. The final design will be developed in a way that ensures backward compatibility with existing SIM cards and continues to provide the same functionality as the cards we use today.
